The latest indieVelo update V0.2.44 released April 8, 2024, brings iOS to a wide range of iPhones/iPads, and online event organization.
Another week and two more giant leaps forward for indieVelo. The consistent progress toward making indieVelo the premier cycling esports platform continues with another set of highly sought-after fundamental upgrades.
iOS release: indieVelo is now successfully running on both iPhones & iPads. As noted last week, the rollout will initially be limited to members of the indieVelo Founders Club.
Here’s how to access the iOS version of indieVelo:
- Click here to join the Founder’s club: https://indievelo.com/checkouts/indievelo-founder/
- Email help@indievelo.com and provide your AppStore email address.
- You will receive a return email with the relevant permissions needed for download.
indieVelo now uses its own new adaptive graphics and memory modes to allow it to run on a very wide range of mobile devices.
This means you’ll be able to enjoy high-resolution 4K graphics with beautiful shadows and stunning night skies on the latest hardware, but it will also still run at a much lower resolution on 5—or even some 10-year-old mobiles.
Online Signup: indieVelo now fully supports signing up for events online. Anyone can now organize a custom event, and indieVelo automatically provides a unique URL for online signups.
They can then share that link with anyone, wherever and whenever they want (for example, publicly for anyone to use or privately with an access code to limit entries), and riders can click on it to sign up for the event.
Another huge thank you goes to Mike Swart for his work on indieVeloHub to enable this.
As always, there’s a bevy of other additions, improvements, and fixes throughout this week’s release (see below for full details). These mostly focus on very significant improvements to the underlying infrastructure to massively improve frame rates and memory usage for the mobile versions, but due to indieVelo’s unique cross-platform shared codebase, PC and Mac users also automatically gain these huge benefits.
Finally, for anyone who still hasn’t found all 5 Traditional Easter Eggs hidden around the indieVelo world, here is a quick clue:
- Two eggs are on the main island.
- Base Camp and Coastal Loop are the routes that go right by.
- Three eggs are on the new mountain.
- Ice Circuit, Climbers Delight, and False Flat are the ones you should try.
Note for Mac Bluetooth users: If you find that the Bluetooth icon on the pairing screen has turned red, please follow the instructions linked from https://wiki.indievelo.com/docs/apple-mac-ble-permissions/ to first completely remove, and then re-add, permission for indieVelo to use the Mac Bluetooth connection.
Do you want to steepen your indieVelo learning curve? Check out our How-to-Guides page for details!
If all has gone well, you shouldn’t have to do anything to get the new version, as indieVelo will self-update the next time you start it up. If you find any problems, however, instructions on how to manually update are on the website: https://wiki.indievelo.com/docs/updates
Please note that, depending on when you installed indieVelo, you may see a warning message recommending that you update the installer/launcher to the latest version. If you see this, download it again from https://indievelo.com/downloads, and the update will automatically apply. The entire process typically takes a minute or two, often much less.
The full patch notes are below!
