The latest indieVelo update V0.2.28 released December 18, 2023, introduces poorly calibrated trainer flagging and other performance upgrades.
Performance matters. This week’s release (see below for full details) focuses on both types – athletic and computational:
Performance Verification. indieVelo takes another big step towards ensuring fair and credible racing with the addition of the ability to detect incorrectly calibrated trainers. By analyzing the detailed live data streams in multiple different ways, indieVelo can now automatically detect the subtle signs of a trainer that isn’t broadcasting power data that accurately reflects the precise power. Where an event organizer chooses to enable it, riders with miscalibrated trainers will be automatically removed from events in real-time, live during the race, before they can affect the outcome for everyone else competing on a level playing field.
indieVelo’s Performance. This week, indieVelo also put significant effort into improving the indieVelo application’s Performance. It includes nearly doubling the frame rate / FPS on low-end Android hardware and making substantial gains in memory usage and graphics performance across all other systems, too. IndieVelo will now run smoother and faster and look better on more systems than ever before.
On top of these headline changes, there’s also the usual wide range of other additions and improvements covering everything from group rides and rubberbanding to custom workouts and pairing. indieVelo is now also visible directly within the Google Play Store for members of the indieVelo Founders Club who have opted into the Android test release.

Note for Mac Bluetooth users: If you find that the Bluetooth icon on the pairing screen has turned red, please follow the instructions linked from https://wiki.indievelo.com/docs/apple-mac-ble-permissions/ to first completely remove, and then re-add, permission for indieVelo to use the Mac Bluetooth connection.

If all has gone well, you shouldn’t have to do anything to get the new version, as indieVelo will self-update the next time you start it up. If you find any problems, however, instructions on how to manually update are on the website: https://wiki.indievelo.com/docs/updates
Please note that, depending on when you installed indieVelo, you may see a warning message recommending that you update the installer/launcher to the latest version. If you see this, download it again from https://indievelo.com/downloads, and the update will automatically apply. The entire process typically takes a minute or two, often much less.
