The indieVelo "Crossover Circuit" Route-43.4km (27 mi), elevation 331m (1,085 ft)-alternating long flats interrupted by two stiff climbs!
Route Description
One of the original Beta routes rolled out on The Island in 2023, the Crossover Circuit offers a lengthy 43.4 km (approx. 27 mi) course with 331 m (approx. 1,085 ft) of elevation. The route features alternating flat segments interrupted by two significant climbs, traversing the Island once North to South and once South to North.
Starting at the East Lap Gate, you first head towards North Lake. A couple of minor bumps with gradients between 3% and 5% come up at km 5.2 (approx. 3.2 mi), leading into the day’s first major climb: a 1.6 km (approx. 1 mi) ascent with an average gradient of 6.3% beginning at km 5.8 (approx. 3.6 mi).
Watch out for auto braking corners on the descent, particularly at km 8.7 (approx. 5.4 mi). From there, you’ll reach the southern tip of the Island and start a full clockwise coastal lap of about 18 km (approx. 11.2 mi).
This section is primarily flat, with a slight bump of 800 m (approx. 0.5 mi) at a 2% gradient at km 12.8 (approx. 7.9 mi), followed by a High/Low road split at km 13 (approx. 8 mi).
The next major challenge doesn’t come until km 27 (approx. 16.8 mi), with the route’s second climb: a 1.7 km (approx. 1.1 mi) ascent at an average of 6.1%, which is sure to be the final selection.
After descending, you’ll journey to the Island’s north point through North Lake and tackle a couple more small bumps. Then, make a left to start a three-quarter lap around the Island counter-clockwise.
During this final 12 km (approx. 7.5 mi) of mostly flat terrain, you’ll encounter another High/Low road split at km 34.9 (approx. 21.7 mi).
By the end, you’ll cross the finish line at the East Lap Gate—right where you started but undoubtedly with less energy left in the watt reservoir tank.
