The indieVelo "North Lake Loop" Route-2.4km (1.5 mi), elevation 49m (160 ft)-simply a lap around the North Lake of the Island!
Route Description
One of the eighteen original Beta routes rolled out on The Island in 2023, the North Lake Loop is simply a lap around the North Lake of the Island.
It is the ideal route for multi-lap elimination races, with two hills unavoidably depleting your blood oxygen saturation.
Gentle reminder: Call your health care provider if your home SpO2 (pulse oximeter) reading is lower than 95%. 🙂
Therefore, North Lake Loop should be your playground if you are one of those one-minute intervals at 140% FTP experts.
North Lake Loop consists mainly of a succession of three hills in 2.6km. There is almost no time to recover between one and the other. So get ready for a rollercoaster.
The first hill starts at 0.2km and is 250m long, at a 5% average.
The second one starts at 0.8km and is 450m long at 5% average.
The last one starts at 2km and is 450m at 3% average.
It rapidly becomes a last-man-standing game, as the repetition of the short efforts takes a toll.
It’s not uncommon to have multi-laps (5 to 10) elimination races organized in North Lake Loop, obliging you to enter survival mode only a few hundred meters after the starting line and remain there during the race feeling at best like a hamster in a wheel, but most likely like you’re in a washing machine.
