The latest TrainingPeaks Virtual update, v0.4.9, released January 20th, enhances device pairing and other foundational performance elements that "Just Work."
Editor’s note: Since early June 2023, we’ve highlighted the rapid evolution of indieVelo with weekly update posts. Not everyone receives the emails or is a member of the various social media groups, and the more searchable mentions available, the better to promote the indieVelo, err, Training Peaks Virtual vision. The name is different, and the once-a-week cadence might change, but the commitment to promoting the platform hasn’t wavered.
TrainingPeaks Virtual remains completely focused on delivering the online experiences committed athletes and coaches want and need.
By listening to the feedback on the dedicated TrainingPeaks Virtual UserVoice forum, in just the three months since launching the developers implemented well over 100 of your suggestions.
This week’s release of TrainingPeaks Virtual focuses on the pairing of your hardware devices (trainers, heart rate monitors, power meters, sensors etc) to the application. As well as increasing the number and range of devices that can be paired, TrainingPeaks Virtual now fully supports multi-user environments – for example, several people training together in the same room – and significantly improves the pairing process when using Apple TV.
Central to this is a new pairing UI, which allows you to choose exactly which hardware devices you want to pair to, and then exactly what data you want to use from those devices. This two-step process (select the hardware device, then select the data to use) enables you to configure your training to be exactly the way you want to train.
In addition, there are also a large number of other additions, improvements and fixes (see below for more details). These include increasing the reliability of pairing, better ERG mode responsiveness, streamlined onboarding & menu navigation, and the usual wide array of background updates to the servers and infrastructure to keep everything running smoothly as TrainingPeaks continues to rapidly scale up.
TrainingPeaks Virtual has enhanced TP Virtual Hub community integration by linking it to the TPV Discord channel. Plus, many more quality of life changes are happening under the hood.
There’s also the usual wide mix of bug fixes and infrastructure changes to ensure that everything “Just Works” as TPV continues to grow in scale rapidly.
In Episode 58 of the Virtual Velo Podcast, Chris and Emma welcome Dirk Friel, co-founder and Chief Evangelist of Training Peaks, and Dr. George Gilbert, the creator of indieVelo, to discuss their newly formed partnership and the launch of Training Peaks Virtual.
Please continue to share your ideas on UserVoice, or discuss and vote on those from others, and we’ll keep building those features that you ask for. Your feedback is hugely appreciated and makes an enormous difference to the features we work on for you.
TrainingPeaks Virtual will just self-update the next time you open the app. If you find any problems, please follow instructions on how to manually update here.
