The latest indieVelo update V0.2.35 released February 5, 2024, introduces a Content Delivery Network that allows real-time updates without the need for new coding releases that slow progress.
In another massive step forward, the developer can now update indieVelo in real-time without needing new releases.
One of the most essential parts of creating a long-lasting application like an online cycling platform is having the right architecture to maintain and update it over many years easily. In particular, this means separating out the code that is the DNA of the product (all the algorithms etc) from the content that you experience in the product (all the graphics, sounds, maps, routes etc).
The code is generally complex but only needs to be updated occasionally. In contrast, the content is straightforward and needs to be updated continually. If not treated separately, then you have a product that’s both complex and needs updating continually, which leads to slow progress, massive downloads, frequent breakages, and many of the other issues we see in the industry today.
This week’s release of indieVelo (see below for full details) doubles down on indieVelo’s mission to transform the industry using clean and purpose-built architecture to add a Content Delivery Network – the mechanism for updating just the content whenever needed, without needing a new release of the code. Initially, this will start with the independent management of Teams and Team Kits – with just a couple of mouse clicks on the servers, these can now be instantly created and/or updated whenever needed, and everyone will immediately be able to see the changes in-game.
Note for Mac Bluetooth users: If you find that the Bluetooth icon on the pairing screen has turned red, please follow the instructions linked from https://wiki.indievelo.com/docs/apple-mac-ble-permissions/ to first completely remove, and then re-add, permission for indieVelo to use the Mac Bluetooth connection.

If all has gone well, you shouldn’t have to do anything to get the new version, as indieVelo will self-update the next time you start it up. If you find any problems, however, instructions on how to manually update are on the website: https://wiki.indievelo.com/docs/updates
Please note that, depending on when you installed indieVelo, you may see a warning message recommending that you update the installer/launcher to the latest version. If you see this, download it again from https://indievelo.com/downloads, and the update will automatically apply. The entire process typically takes a minute or two, often much less.
The full patch notes are below!
It is an exhilarating time for the progression of what an indoor cycling platform can do and the benefits it can bring to riders and teams. Over the coming weeks and months, this functionality will be extended to more and more of the content on indieVelo, allowing for even faster expansion of the content available as we continue to grow.
“Thank you once more to everyone who has helped on the journey so far – your suggestions for improving are hugely appreciated and continue to help drive the sport forward. I can’t wait to see what we continue to create together in the future together.”
George Gilbert
